Breeding Mares:
live cover and artificial insemination

Learn safe handling techniques for breeding mares both live cover and A-I. Almost all of the A-I work is done on the ranch. Participants, in helping with all aspects of the process, learn to understand the hormones used to regulate and manipulate the mares reproductive cycles and maintain pregnancies.

The opportunity to consult with a world famous Theriogenologist Dr. Ahmed Tibary on difficult reproductive cases is tremendously enriching. The working relationship that the staff enjoys with our wonderful local veterinarian, Dr. Shari Carnahan, for routine care and reproductive assistance is a standard of excellence that any horse lover and owner will benefit from.

Foaling and Imprinting

Learn first hand about foaling, imprinting and care of newborn foals.

We give participants an opportunity to experience foal watch and to assist the farm manager and staff while mares foal, to help with post foaling care of mares and foals, including thorough imprinting of foals. Conditioning for the post-partum mare, neonate, administering IGG tests and post foaling veterinary assistance.

Young Stallion Training, Conditioning and Handling

Observe and learn how to teach young stallions to breed both live cover and by collecting of the stallion on a breeding phantom for A-I.

Learn successful strategies for keeping a stallion kind and sociable, while maintaining him at optimum health for peak fertility during the stresses of the breeding season.

Participants will be introduced to the laboratory techniques and procedures for the handling, extending, fractionating, packaging, and shipping fresh cooled semen to clients around the country. This vital, and very interesting, aspect of the breeding process.
